Living Retired - a baby boomer's musings on retirement living
Join us for a laugh-filled morning as we welcome Gary Chalk, a master communicator whose career began with a block of wood and a dream. As a child, Gary’s parents were understandably concerned when he started “playing radio” with his homemade microphone—but little did they know it was the first step toward a lively career in broadcasting, advertising, and public relations.
From mispronouncing words on southern Ontario airwaves to launching creative campaigns as an ad agency partner, Gary has seen it all—including a pivotal career epiphany during a WKRP turkey drop. Later, he convinced a hospital CEO he was media-savvy (no mention of the wooden mic, of course) and launched into PR.
Now retired—at least in theory—Gary spends his time offering sharp-witted reflections on communication, aging, and the fine art of pretending retirement is hard work (his wife still believes him).
Get ready for a humorous, engaging talk from a man who’s made a career out of speaking—into wood, microphones, and media alike!
LUNCH BUNCH: After the meeting, all members are invited to have lunch (at their own cost) at a local restaurant. A great way to get to know your fellow members.
